Carl will once again
be the percussion caption head for the 37th Kingswood Drum and
Bugle corps. He is Excited to working with the new members of
staff that have joined the organisation in 2006, as well as working
with the existing staff in building up the percussion program
to be one of the best in the country. Carl marched in the 37th
since 1993. Since his time with the corps he has marched in the
front ensemble, cymbal line, bass line and the quad line. In his
time of being a member he has held the title of rookie of the
year, drill member of the year, percussion member of the year
and corps
member of the year. He has also held the title of BYBA individual
tenor champion for 2 years in a row. He also won the BYBA young
musician of the year award. Since 2003 Carl has been on the percussion
staff, while still marching. He has been a key role in the percussion
arranging since that time. Carl is also an alumnus of the Colts
Drum and Bugle Corps from Dubuque IA USA. He marched 2 years in
the tenor line, aging out as the section leader in his last year.
Under the direction of the corps consultant Kent Lineberry Carl
built up the skills that serves him well in his current role as
the Caption head of the percussion section. I know that the time
Carl spent with the Colts has given him the tools to be able to
push the percussion program to new heights. Carl is currently
working as accounts assistant in Bristol. Carl is also a member
of the Vic Firth Education team as Marching percussion specialist.

David began his involvement with drumcorps in 1988 at the tender and
impressionable age of ten, playing glockenspiel for the New Surrey Raiders.
David continued to perform with the Raiders front line over the next nine
seasons, which included a 13-show undefeated season in 1991. During this
time David also ventured onto the field for two seasons, playing tenors and
snare when the corps needed him to, and demonstrating his impeccable
marching technique. David also began arranging for the front ensemble and
instructing both the main and cadet units. |
|
|
| |
Following the demise of the Raiders in 1997, David agreed to play timpani
for Cadence for two shows, whilst their regular player was 'on holiday'.
David ended up staying with Cadence until ageing out in 2002, performing in
the front ensemble, instructing and arranging for the pit, and also writing
some full percussion scores. During his time with the Raiders and Cadence
the corps won DCUK A and Open class titles respectively, and David also won
the BYBA and DCUK individuals titles.
As well as instructing and arranging for Cadence, David has written for
Vintage Percussion and Black Knights, and for the past three years has
coordinated the tuned percussion instruction at the BYBA Festival of Music
and Fun, and arranged and instructed the Pontins Crusaders front line.
Away from drumcorps, David played in various school bands and orchestras,
and studied electro-acoustic composition alongside his degree in English
Literature at the University of East Anglia. After leaving university he
obtained a diploma in Sound Recording and Production, and performed drumkit,
percussion, guitar, keyboards and backing vocals for an indie-pop combo,
also being co-songwriter. David also occasionally undertakes jazz and
orchestral work, playing vibes, timpani and percussion.
David has had a variety of jobs, ranging from house painter, online music
editor, and working for the government (classified). David currently
teaches drumkit and percussion professionally in schools and music centres
across Berkshire.
